Story:
Virat (Dheeraj) a happy go lucky guy who is very concerned about the society. One day, he goes to an interview and the interviewer demands a bribe to give him that job. At same point, his friend Rahul’s parents commit suicide as they were deceived by another government official. Miffed by these incidents, Virat launches a rebellion and resorts to wipeout corruption from the state with the help of his friends and girlfriend Srujana (Padmini). He conducts a sting operation and abducts the family members of the political honchos and other bureaucrats. Virat demands a big chunk of money and asks for something in exchange. What happens next and how he fights against the corruption forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Being a debutant, Dheeraj excelled in action sequences and dialogue delivery. However, he needs to work on his expressions in emotional scenes. His dance has a good grace and has the potential to become one of the best dancers in the industry. Anchor turned actress Padmini looked good and delivered a decent performance. Although she has very little to do in the film, she impressed in a couple of scenes. Patanchervu MLA Nadeeswar Goud is a surprise package as the Chief Minister. Others like Jaya Lakshmi, Rahul, Akash, Divija played their part well.
Analysis:
The film was made on a shoe-string budget and the director Deepak should need a round of applause for choosing a contemporary subject. Although, the first hour of the film is clinched with unwanted scenes and a parade of songs which eventually hamper the narration, the second half looks far more convincing. Especially, the songs in the first half come when the hero meets the heroine or the heroine meets their friends. Director Deepak should have done some homework for the first half and could have made this film even more gripping. What point he tries to convey has been sidelined in the first hour and at times it tests your patience. But, everything goes at ease as the second half was handled appropriately. All the characters have some scope to perform in this part. Vichakshana is a brave attempt from a debutant and it’s the responsibility of every movie enthusiast to encourage films of this kind. The movie is refreshment to the audiences who are tired of watching the tired and test formulaic films that have no sense and story. Though we have seen several movies in the past that are based on wiping out corruption, what makes Vichakshana different is that the story is very close to reality.
Technicalities:
Direction by Deepak is worthy. Music by Jagannath Senadhi is a big letdown but the back ground score is good. Cinematography by Nagaraju is neat. Nikson’s choreography is fine. Editing by Rama Rao and Mohan could have been better. Production values by Asharam Creations are decent considering the budget the film was made.
Final word:
Vichakshana is a film that should be admired for its contemporary story and the realist approach. Go watch it if you like films that thrive for the betterment of the society.
Vichakshana Movie Rating: 3/5
