Review: 3.5/5
Cast: Ravi Babu, Poorna, Harsh Vardhan Rane…
Director: Ravi Babu
Producer: Prasad V Potluri
Genre: Thriller
Censor: U/A
Ravi Babu has acted as well directed the suspense thriller Telugu Film AVUNU. Actress Poorna (Seema tapakai fame) is playing the lead role in the film, while actor Harshavardhan Rane (Naa Istam fame) will be seen in an important role along with Ravi Babu. Sekhar Chandra of ‘Nacchavule’ fame is giving Background Music for Avunu, Movie has NO SONGS. With the support of Suresh Productions and PVP Cinema, Ravi Babu himself is producing the film on Flying Frogs Production Banner. Theatrical trailer of the film created lot of buzz in the industry.
Apparently, Story inspired from Yami Gautham’s incidents, when she was shooting for the Telugu film ‘Nuvvila’ with him. She was staying at the Sitara Hotel at Ramoji Film City {one of India’s Most Haunted places} during the shoot and even Ravi Babu had stayed there. But when she narrated the story, he was quite scared and could not sleep at night. He moved out of the hotel. Let’s check out how much propaganda is crammed in it..
Mohan(Harshavardhan Rane) and Mohini (Poorna) newly married couple move into Classic Homes situated in the outskirts of Hyderabad. Mohan’s parents (Chalapathi Rao & Rajeshwari) join them. Soon family begins to feel the presence of an unknown force in their house. Will Mohini survive the strange beings? Will Mohan save his wife? Forms the rest of the storyline.
Poorna walks away with honors with her terrific performance as a wife who experiences the unknown force in the house.. Harsha Vardhan Rane is good, he was at his best in the pre climax episode.
Chalapathi Rao and Rajeshwari provide intial laughs. Sudha got another good role in this film and she impresses. Casting is done appropriately.
The basic storyline & Script is interesting. Director Ravibabu has made the narration interesting. Some scenes are inspired from Hollywood Films like Shinning (1980) & Sixth Sense. The idea of using horror in broad day light is fantastic.
Dialogues by Nivas are good. Camerawork by Sudhakar Reddy is neat. Music by Sekhar Chandra is superb. There are no songs in this 110 minutes film. 25 minutes of visual effects are Fantastic. Editing is perfect. Production values of the film are decent. Logics in the film were not perfect, Esp. When Harsh is searching for Poorna dont know why she doesnt plan to lock him inside a room and get out of the house? In the same scene Being a exceptional ghost inside Harsh , he walks and searches in every alternate room for Poorna.
Scenes i Liked:
> Blanket Scene
>Ghost Showing its presense
> Sensor Touch
> Day Light Horror scenes
> Sudha aunty scene
Finally:
First half of the film is good. Second half is interesting . Climax is a bit dragged. The best thing about the film is the scariness it offers. The plus points are Horror scenes, Poorna performance, Narration, Editing, VFX and sound effects. The negative points are unnecessary exploitation, Inspired stuff, Logics and Climax. If you like scary films AVUNU is a film you would love to watch…
